For Mold Remediation Contractors: Your HVAC Restoration Partner in Austin

On many Central Texas mold jobs, the moisture source and a good share of the contamination are in the HVAC system: an overflowing drain pan in an attic air handler, a moldy coil and blower, sweating ducts, or an oversized system that can’t hold humidity down. Remediating the house without restoring the HVAC system, or without fixing what caused the moisture, is how projects fail clearance or come back.

That work sits across two trades. Opening, repairing or replacing air conditioning equipment and ductwork requires a Texas air conditioning license, and cleaning and treating mold in the system is remediation work. Most HVAC companies aren’t set up for mold projects, and most remediation crews don’t repair AC equipment. We do both sides of the HVAC scope, so you don’t have to split it.

You lead the remediation project and issue the Certificate of Mold Damage Remediation (CMDR). We’re the HVAC contractor on your job.

• Review the protocol: we read the assessor’s protocol and your work plan and flag HVAC items that need clarifying before work starts.
• Quote the HVAC scope, a written scope and price for the HVAC work the protocol assigns: coil, air handler cabinet and blower, drain pan, plenums, ducts and registers.
• Work within your containment and schedule: we coordinate access, sequencing and HVAC isolation with your crew so the system doesn’t spread debris during the job.
• HVAC-side cleaning and treatment per protocol: HEPA vacuuming and cleaning of the coil, cabinet and blower, and cleaning or replacing contaminated internal insulation.
• Duct cleaning and duct replacement: sheet metal cleaned where it can be; flex duct and duct board replaced and correctly sized and sealed where it can’t.
• Moisture-source correction: drains, pans and float switches, duct sweating and insulation, return leaks, equipment sizing and humidity control, including whole-home dehumidifiers.
• Documentation: photos and a written summary of the HVAC work for your project records, the assessor’s clearance and the property owner’s files.

• Independent licensed mold assessor: evaluates the property, writes the protocol and performs the post-remediation assessment.
• Licensed mold remediation contractor (you): leads the project, prepares the work plan, runs containment and the remediation in the home, and issues the CMDR when a regulated project passes.
