For Mold Remediation Contractors: Your HVAC Restoration Partner in Austin

On many Central Texas mold jobs, the HVAC system holds both the moisture source and a good share of the contamination: an overflowing drain pan under an attic air handler, a moldy coil and blower, sweating ducts, or an oversized system that short-cycles and can’t hold humidity down. Remediate the house without restoring the system, or without fixing the moisture, and the project fails clearance or comes back.

That work straddles two trades. Opening, repairing or replacing AC equipment and ductwork takes a Texas air conditioning license; cleaning and treating mold inside that equipment is remediation work. Most HVAC companies aren’t set up for mold projects, and most remediation crews don’t repair AC equipment. We cover both halves of the HVAC scope, so you don’t have to split it between two subs.

You lead the remediation project and issue the Certificate of Mold Damage Remediation (CMDR). We’re the HVAC contractor on your job, and our mold work stays inside the system.

• Protocol review: we read the assessor’s protocol and your work plan and flag HVAC items to clear up before work starts.
• A written HVAC quote: scope and price for the work the protocol assigns us, covering the coil, air handler cabinet and blower, drain pan, plenums, ducts and registers.
• Work inside your containment and schedule: we coordinate access, sequencing and HVAC isolation with your crew so the system doesn’t spread debris mid-job.
• HVAC cleaning and treatment to protocol: HEPA vacuuming and cleaning of the coil, cabinet and blower, and cleaning or replacing contaminated internal insulation.
• Duct cleaning or replacement: sheet metal is cleaned where it can be. Ductboard and flex, which make up most Austin plenums and runs, are replaced where they can’t be cleaned, then correctly sized and sealed.
• Moisture-source fixes: drains, pans and float switches, duct sweating and insulation, return leaks, equipment sizing and humidity control, including whole-home dehumidifiers.
• Documentation: photos and a written summary of the HVAC work for your project file, the assessor’s clearance and the owner’s records.

• Independent licensed mold assessor: evaluates the property, writes the protocol and performs the post-remediation assessment.
• Licensed mold remediation contractor (you): leads the project, prepares the work plan, runs containment and the remediation in the home, and issues the CMDR when a regulated project passes.
