Driftwood is a Hill Country crossroads in northern Hays County, about 24 miles southwest of downtown Austin along RM 150. Settlers arrived around 1850, and by 1890 there was a post office, a school, churches, a cotton gin and a general store. The community nearly emptied out more than once, and the 2020 census counted just 106 people in the Driftwood CDP.
