How Bee Cave Grew, and What It Means for Your AC

Early settlers named Bee Cave for a large cave of wild bees, and the post office that opened in 1870 went by Bee Caves. The city incorporated in 1987, then grew from 656 people in 2000 to more than 9,000 in 2020, spreading along Highway 71 and RM 620 toward Lake Travis. So most houses here are fairly young, but young does not mean alike. Gold Eagle Services handles cooling, heating and indoor air quality in all of them.

Bee Cave Homes by Era, and What to Watch in Each

When it was builtWhat you usually findThe HVAC issue to watch
Before 2000Scattered homes and rural properties from the village yearsOlder equipment, ducts extended through remodels, detached buildings with no cooling
2000sThe first big wave of subdivisions, around the time the Hill Country Galleria opened in 2007Original systems reaching the repair or replace point; attic duct wear
2010s to todayLarger homes on rocky hillside lots, often with two systems or zoningUpstairs zones that lag on summer evenings, heat pumps leaning on backup heat in a freeze

A ten-year-old Bee Cave home can already be on its first round of major repairs, especially if the builder sized the equipment in a hurry or the attic bakes all afternoon.

Why the Upstairs Lags in Hillside Bee Cave Homes

On the hills, west- and south-facing walls take the full afternoon sun, so an upstairs zone can fall behind while the rest of the house is fine. Our air conditioning repair technicians check the zoning dampers, airflow and refrigerant charge, not just the outdoor unit. If one of your systems is due for replacement, build your own system online to compare equipment.

A hard freeze pushes heat pumps onto their backup heat strips, which is why the fall visit tests them. Our heating services cover heat pump repair, furnace work and pre-winter tune-ups. For the casita, pool house or home office the central system never reached, we install and repair ductless mini-split systems as a Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Contractor. Many Bee Cave neighborhoods have HOA rules on where outdoor units sit and how they are screened, so we check those before we set anything.

A Year of HVAC Care in Bee Cave

  • March: clean the outdoor coils and swap filters once spring pollen starts.
  • May: run both zones, or both systems, before the heat settles in.
  • July: make sure the attic drain pans and condensate lines are clear.
  • October: book a heating visit to test heat pump defrost and backup heat.
  • December to February: Ashe juniper surrounds the city, so cedar season hits hard. Use a quality filter, keep the return sealed and check the Austin air quality index.
  • Year-round: if the house feels dusty or stuffy, ask about our indoor air quality options.

Our Home Maintenance Plan puts the spring and fall visits on our calendar instead of yours.

Did You Know? Bee Cave Under the Stars

In April 2023 Bee Cave became an International Dark-Sky Community, only the seventh city in Texas to earn the title. Step outside on a clear night and you’ll see why the city asks for shielded outdoor lights.

One more: in 2007 the Texas Legislature passed a resolution naming Bee Cave home of the West Pole, a tongue-in-cheek marker on the 98th meridian.
