Fujitsu

Fujitsu mini-splits come from Fujitsu General, renamed GENERAL Inc. in 2026 and now part of the Rheem family. Here is what changed for owners of Airstage and Halcyon units.

A white Fujitsu ductless HVAC unit is mounted on an exterior wall, with a broad grille, dark fan, and connected lines visible.

Who makes Fujitsu mini-splits?

Fujitsu General, a Japanese air conditioning company that is separate from Fujitsu Ltd., the computer and IT company. In 2025, Paloma Rheem Holdings, the owner of Rheem, bought Fujitsu General and made it a wholly owned subsidiary. On January 1, 2026, the company changed its name to GENERAL Inc., and it is phasing in a new GENERAL brand symbol, starting with new products. The Fujitsu name on the unit in your bonus room still means the same maker.

What is Fujitsu known for?

  • Ductless specialist. Fujitsu General builds inverter mini-splits and VRF rather than traditional single-stage central air. Its U.S. arm, Fujitsu General America, is based in Fairfield, New Jersey.
  • High efficiency. Fujitsu has sold wall-mounted, Wi-Fi-ready ductless heat pumps rated up to 33 SEER.
  • Lots of indoor styles. Wall mounts, ceiling cassettes, floor units and slim ducted units, so one outdoor unit can serve rooms that need different things.
  • Now part of a bigger family. Joining Paloma Rheem pairs a ductless maker with one of North America’s largest ducted equipment makers. How the two lineups come together is still being announced.

The "General" name is older than the Fujitsu one on your unit

The company has used “General” as a trademark since 1946, and it is registered in more than 120 countries. For its 90th anniversary in 2026, the old trademark became the company name. Your Fujitsu, in other words, was a General all along.

How do Fujitsu mini-splits handle Austin heat, humidity and freezes?

  • Hot rooms. A Fujitsu ductless head is a clean fix for the bonus room, converted garage or addition the central system cannot reach.
  • Humidity. Inverter units can crawl along at low speed for long stretches, pulling moisture out steadily instead of in bursts. See humidity resources.
  • Cleaning matters. In Austin humidity, the indoor coil and blower wheel on any mini-split, Fujitsu included, need regular professional cleaning to keep musty smells away.
  • Freezes. Camp Mabry fell to 7°F during Winter Storm Uri. If a ductless head will be a room’s only heat, ask about Fujitsu’s cold-climate models. Read our freeze guide.

Airstage lineup: which Fujitsu fits which room?

Picking the right indoor style matters as much as picking the brand:

  • Wall-mounted units are the most common and the easiest to service. Good for bedrooms, offices and garages.
  • Ceiling cassettes sit flush in the ceiling and throw air in several directions. Good for open living areas.
  • Floor units fit under windows or in rooms with sloped ceilings.
  • Slim ducted units hide in a closet or attic and feed short duct runs to one or two rooms.

A multi-zone outdoor unit can run several indoor heads, but each room still needs its own correctly sized head. A 12,000 BTU unit in a small bedroom short-cycles: it cools the room fast and shuts off before it pulls the moisture out, leaving it clammy. Plan a condensate line from every indoor unit, especially on interior walls, and leave access to clean the blower wheel.

With Fujitsu General now in the Paloma Rheem family, watch for combined offerings from Rheem and GENERAL. Until they are announced, treat Airstage as its own lineup.

Does Gold Eagle work on Fujitsu mini-splits?

Yes. Gold Eagle installs, services and repairs ductless systems in homes around Austin, including Fujitsu Airstage and older Halcyon units. Quick questions about Fujitsu, Halcyon and GENERAL

Who owns Fujitsu air conditioners now?
Paloma Rheem Holdings, the parent of Rheem, which made Fujitsu General a wholly owned subsidiary in 2025. The company is now called GENERAL Inc.

Is Fujitsu General the same as Fujitsu?
No. Fujitsu General makes air conditioners; Fujitsu Ltd. is the IT company, and it sold its stake in 2025.

What happened to Fujitsu Halcyon?
It became the Airstage H-Series in 2022, when Fujitsu rebranded its mini-split lines as Airstage. Gold Eagle still services older Halcyon units.

Often, yes. A wall-mounted Airstage unit is a common fit for garages and bonus rooms, as long as it is sized for the room and the space is reasonably insulated.
