Where did Pure come from?

From the Wing Force files.

Far across the galaxy spins Planet Aeris, a blue-and-silver world with the freshest air anywhere in the universe. The people of Aeris wear gleaming armor and read the air with scanners the way you read a book.

One night, Pure’s scanner picked up a strange signal from a small blue planet far away. It wasn’t a sound. It wasn’t a light. It was a SMELL. A bad one.

Pure followed it across the stars and landed, a little bumpily, on the Nest Deck of the Aerie, high above Comfort City. Goldstrike helped him up. Talon’s gold feather began to glow.

“Beep?” said Pure. He pointed at a vent. “Question. What is THAT?” Then at a fan. Then at the ceiling. He has not stopped asking questions since.

Now Pure is the first one into every mission, scanner glowing, reading the air for clues before anyone else spots a thing. Which villain sent that smell across the galaxy? CLASSIFIED.

What does Pure really do?

In real life, Pure is a building science tech: someone who studies the whole house, how air moves through it, where it leaks, and how damp or dry it is, and measures instead of guessing. His favorite science starts with one surprising fact: a smell is a gas. When you smell cookies, tiny molecules have floated off the cookies, drifted through the air and landed in your nose. Your nose is a gas detector.

That fact explains a lot about odors at home:

  • Air filters can’t catch most smells. A filter is a net for specks like dust and pollen. Smell molecules are far smaller than the holes in the net, so they slip right through.
  • Fresh air and fans move smells out. Kitchen fans and bathroom fans that vent outdoors carry odor molecules away.
  • The best fix is finding the source. As long as something keeps making a smell (a dirty coil, a forgotten gym bag, a damp spot), the smell keeps coming back. That’s why Pure always scans first.

In the comics, Pure’s fog cannon breaks up stink clouds. It fights smells only, and never touches people, pets or anyone. In Wing Force #1, Pure’s fog breaks up the stink clouds first. Then the team washes The Spore’s dirty coil, because the stink only stops for good when its source is fixed.

Your mission: Smell Scanner

Be a scanner like Pure. Your nose is the tool.

  1. Walk through your home and notice the everyday smells: kitchen, laundry, the bathroom after a shower.
  2. Notice a smell that’s new, strange, or keeps coming back, like dirty socks from a vent? Tell a grown-up where and when you smelled it.
  3. Ask a grown-up to run the kitchen fan when food is cooking.

Never try to find where a strange smell is coming from by opening equipment or cabinets. Scanners report. Grown-ups fix.
