Can you do one kind thing every day for a month?

Yes, you can! This Good Neighbor Kindness Calendar gives you 31 small, kind things to do. Print it, hang it up and tick a box each day.

Goldstrike, your Wing Force guide
Goldstrike says“One kind thing a day. Ready?”

Kindness means doing something nice for someone without being asked. It can be big, like helping clean a park. It can be tiny, like holding a door. Tiny counts!

You just do it, tick the box and feel good.

How to use your calendar

  1. Print this page with a grown-up.
  2. Hang it up on the fridge or your bedroom door.
  3. Start on any day. Day 1 doesn’t have to be the 1st of the month.
  4. Do one kindness a day. Skip one? No problem. Pick it up tomorrow, or swap in a different kindness.
  5. Tick the box when you’ve done it.
  6. Tell your family about your favorite kindness at dinner.
Kindness outside your home happens with your grown-up.

The calendar

There are four kinds of days. 🏠 Home days are for your family. 👋 Neighbor days are for people on your street. 🌳 Town days are for your community, with a grown-up. 🛋️ Couch days are quiet kindnesses you can do sitting down.

Week 1: Start at home

DayKindnessDone
1 🏠Make your bed without being asked.
2 🏠Help set the table or clear it after a meal.
3 🛋️Draw a picture for someone in your family and leave it on their pillow.
4 🏠Be an Air Grille Helper: check that the big air grille (on a hallway wall or ceiling, where the AC breathes in) is clear of toys, laundry and furniture. Move your own stuff.
5 👋Wave and say hello to a neighbor you see outside.
6 🏠Fill everyone’s water bottle and put them in the fridge.
7 🛋️Tell three people one thing you like about them.

Week 2: Look out for neighbors

DayKindnessDone
8 👋Make a hello card for a neighbor your family knows.
9 👋Give the card together with your grown-up.
10 🛋️Make a thank-you card for your mail carrier. Your grown-up can tape it in the mailbox.
11 👋With your grown-up, pick up litter on your own sidewalk. Wear gloves.
12 🏠Help bring in the groceries. Carry the light bags.
13 👋Very hot or very cold today? Do a Cool Neighbor check-in with your grown-up.
14 🛋️Call or video chat a grandparent or older relative with your grown-up. Ask them what summers were like when they were little.

Week 3: Help your town

DayKindnessDone
15 🌳Visit the library with your grown-up. Return your books on time and say thank you to a librarian.
16 🏠Sort old toys or books you’ve outgrown. Your grown-up decides where to donate them.
17 🌳At a park, put your trash in the bin, and one more piece of litter too (with gloves).
18 🛋️Draw a “Thank You” sign for your bus driver, crossing guard or teacher.
19 🌳Help your grown-up pick canned food to give to a food drive.
20 🏠Give a pet fresh water and a cool, shady spot to rest.
21 🌳Look at the Help Austin page with your grown-up and pick one thing to try this year.

Week 4: Kind to the planet and to yourself

DayKindnessDone
22 🏠Turn off the light when you leave a room.
23 🏠Close the outside door fast so the cool (or warm) air stays inside.
24 🛋️Read a book to a younger kid, a stuffed animal or a pet. Find one on Cool Reads.
25 🌳Water a plant or tree with your grown-up. Trees make shade for everyone.
26 🏠Put the recycling in the right bin. Ask a grown-up if you’re not sure.
27 🛋️Be kind to you: write down one thing you did well this month.
28 👋Say “thank you” to every helper you see today.

Bonus days

DayKindnessDone
29 🏠Do a chore for someone in your family so they can rest.
30 🛋️Make a “kindness jar.” Write kind ideas on scraps of paper and fold them up for next month.
31 🏠Celebrate! Tell your family your three favorite kindnesses from the month.
Fun fact: Kindness is catching. When someone sees you being kind, they’re more likely to be kind too. One wave can start a whole chain of waves down the street.

Why it works: Doing one small thing every day turns it into a habit. A habit is something you do so often you don’t have to think about it. After a month, being kind starts to feel normal.
