I got married in April, and my wife and I moved into our new-to-us home shortly after. It wasn’t a full renovation project, but it definitely needed attention. HVAC, plumbing, electrical… none of the fun stuff first time homeowners get to enjoy. Just the kind of upgrades you make because you want the house to work the way it’s supposed to.

The timing wasn’t great either. Being out of office for a few weeks for our honeymoon right before summer meant I had to jump straight back into the business when we got back. Our customers came first, so our house went on hold.

By December, it was finally time.

For months, the house had been giving me signs it needed care. A mildew smell from the ductwork. A system that was louder than it should’ve been. Uneven airflow that left one bedroom perpetually uncomfortable. And in the summer, humidity sitting at 65–75% while the AC ran nonstop and still couldn’t hold temperature during those tough 3–7 PM hours. Living in Texas, where the weather loves to test your HVAC system, it couldn’t wait any longer.

These are the exact things homeowners tell us every day.

So I did what I always do: I started thinking. Constantly. Running through options, constraints, and tradeoffs. I pulled measurements, studied the space, and mapped out what the house would allow versus what it actually needed.

On paper, the plan looked solid.
Reality had its own agenda.
